CONCORD, NH - Recognizing its pivotal role in creating a statewide program to promote community and professional theatre, New Hampshire Magazine was announced as the winner of a Business in the Arts Awards at a gala evening presentation by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts on May 16 in Manchester. More than 325 guests attended the 27th annual celebration.
New Hampshire Magazine was applauded for outstanding support of the arts through donations of time, money and resources to the arts, and specifically for the creation and nurturing of the New Hampshire Theatre Awards (NHTA) which provides a year-long program of adjudication and education culminating in an annual awards night where the best plays, directors, actors and technical roles are celebrated.
The NHTA has been an all-volunteer group since its inception, sponsored by New Hampshire Magazine and overseen by an operations committee that meets regularly at the New Hampshire Magazine offices. This year as the organization prepares for a 10th anniversary awards night, the magazine gave over all rights to the NHTA to a board of directors who were assembled to guide the NHTA into a new beginning as an official NH non-profit organization.
Editor of New Hampshire Magazine Rick Broussard, a co-founder and former chair of the NHTA, says, "The work that New Hampshire Theatre Awards does in promoting local theatre and providing creative cross-fertilization is so important that this organization was destined to leave the nest and fly on its own. New Hampshire Magazine takes great pride in the role we played bringing the organization to this point and look forward to its continued success.
