COMMUNITY AWARDS
Any person, regardless of prior experience, history, employment, or payment, working in a community production SHALL BE ELIGIBLE for an NHTA award for the category that applies to the position he/she performed in, except as noted under “Exceptions To Eligibility” below.

PROFESSIONAL AWARDS
Any person, regardless of prior experience, history, employment, or payment, working in a professional production SHALL BE ELIGIBLE for an NHTA award for the category that applies to the position he/she performed in, except as noted under “Exceptions To Eligibility” below.

YOUTH AWARDS
Any person, regardless of prior experience, history, employment, or payment, working in a community production SHALL BE ELIGIBLE for an NHTA award for the category that applies to the position he/she performed in, provided he/she is no more than 19 years old on opening day of the youth production, except as noted under “Exceptions To Eligibility” below.


Exceptions to Eligibility

1)  For Community Company productions:
  • A person SHALL BE INELIGIBLE for an award in a nominated category if the nominee holds a union membership* (see below) or has held that union membership directly pertaining to the nominated category or has held that union membership any time in the three (3) years prior to the present qualifying year.  For example:  a person in the Actors' Equity Association would be ineligible for any Acting Categories, but still be eligible for any other nomination category (Directing, Choreography, Set Design, etc). 
  • Ultimately, the final decision regarding any person’s eligibility will be made by the Operations Committee.   

 

2) For Youth Company productions:

  • A person SHALL BE INELIGIBLE for an award in a nominated category if the nominee holds a union membership* (see below) or has held that union membership directly pertaining to the nominated category or has held that union membership any time in the three (3) years prior to the present qualifying year.  For example:  a person in the Actors' Equity Association would be ineligible for any Acting Categories, but still be eligible for any other nomination category (Directing, Choreography, Set Design, etc). 
  • Ultimately, the final decision regarding any person’s eligibility will be made by the Operations Committee. 

 

3)  For Professional Company productions:

  • There are no exceptions for the Professional category at this time.
 


*Disqualifying Unions and Affiliations

  • All "Acting" Categories: Actors' Equity Association, American Guild of Variety Artists, the American Guild of Musical Artists, the American  Federation of Television and Radio Artists, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Screen Actors Guild (SAG)
  • Director: Stage Directors and Choreographers (SDC) Society, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees
  • Choreographer: Stage Directors and Choreographers (SDC) Society, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees
  • Set Design: Art Directors Guild (ADC), Society of British Theatre Designers, Set Decorators Society of America, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees
  • Lighting Design: Art Directors Guild (ADC), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees
  • Sound Design: Art Directors Guild (ADC) International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees
  • Costume Design: Art Directors Guild (ADC), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage
