NHTA Announces New Executive Director!

New Hampshire Theatre Awards (NHTA) has elected Bryan Halperin as their new Executive Director. Halperin, a founder of and Executive Director of The Winnipesaukee Playhouse since its inception in 2004, comes to NHTA with a vast palette of experience. Halperin is involved with all facets of the Playhouse’s operation. In addition to running its day-to-day operations, Halperin also writes directs, produces, and performs in its plays and musicals. His children’s musical series on environmental education has toured elementary schools throughout the state. He has won several New Hampshire Theatre Awards for directing, and received multiple Finalist nods in the playwright, director and actor categories. Halperin is also the creator of the Playhouse’s Playwriting Project, for which he teaches, in the fall, teens and adults how to write a one act play, and then produces and showcases, in the spring, a new play festival. For the past seven years, Halperin has also served as Producer/Director (and occasional actor) for the Winni Players’ Annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Staged Reading

"I'm thrilled to be getting involved more formally with the NH Theatre Awards at this exciting time in its development.” Halperin says. “For me, theatre is all about community building and I see the NHTAs as an opportunity to expand that objective to a larger, state-wide community.  Having experience producing and directing theatre on the youth, community and professional levels in NH allows me to reach out to and relate to all the participating groups at the various levels and understand the challenges and opportunities they face and figure out how the NHTAs can support and enhance what they do."

States NHTA President, Gina Carballo, "Our Board of Directors and Operations Committee have a great deal of admiration and respect for Bryan. He is our top choice for the Executive Director position. He is a natural leader and possesses the vision, fortitude, and comportment required to implement NHTA’s goals, now and in the future.  Bryan and I share a parallel vision about this organization—our members must always be our top priority, and we must execute our initiatives with utmost integrity. Having a like-minded person lead this organization with me, with the bonus of Bryan's credentials, excites me about the bright future of the New Hampshire Theatre Awards.”

Board of Directors announce Election of Officers

New Hampshire Theatre Awards (NHTA) Board of Directors have elected two interim officers into their officially assigned positions. Matthew Gregg, NHTA’s Co-Founder, moves from Interim President to President, and Interim Executive Director, Bob Frasca, will now serve as Executive Director. Together, the two gentlemen will perpetuate the NHTA’s mission to support professional and community theatres all over the state.

States new President, Gregg, "I am extremely excited to serve in this role. In 2001, Rick Broussard and I created the Awards for the task of preservation and growth of the performing arts community in New Hampshire, and I am excited to see where leadership has taken it throughout the years. In order for us to fully realize our mission, it is my hope that we generate new methods and ideas outside of our Awards event to help our craft grow and thrive."

Adds Executive Director Frasca, “I’m excited and pleased that the Board decided to remove Interim from the title as we begin to ramp up preparations for our next Awards show. We’re proud of the show we produced last season and look forward to raising the bar this season. I’d like to thank my fellow Operations Committee members for their efforts on behalf of the NHTA, as well as for their support.”

In addition to Gregg and Frasca, the NHTA Board is comprised of Katie Collins as Secretary, and Executive Editor of New Hampshire Magazine, Rick Broussard, serves as Treasurer. Additionally, John Campanello, Gina Carballo, Morgan Murphy and Scott Brodsky serve in myriad ad hoc capacities. Currently, the position of Vice-President is open, and a search committee is screening candidates to fulfill it.

States Frasca, “We are nearing our twelfth Award season, and this year we plan to grow our organization even further. Earlier this year, for our eleventh season, we moved to a new venue, The Stockbridge Theater in Derry, NH. This remains the site for our annual Award presentation production. The Stockbridge is one of the most beautiful facilities in our state, and we’re extremely excited about how this venue enhances the entire Awards experience for every one of NHTA’s member organizations.”

Board of Director Update

Dear NH Theatre Community, Supporters and Friends,

I am pleased to announce beginning on Wednesday July 3rd, 2013 that I will be continuing the mission of the New Hampshire Theatre Awards by leading the organization as our interim President.  I look forward to continuing my work alongside our Board of Directors and Operations Committee.  I would like to sincerely thank Mark DeLancey for the hard work and dedication that he provided to our organization during his time as president.

As many of you may remember, I was deeply involved in the event during its formative years.

Together, with Rick Broussard and many of you, we solidified the reason for our existence; the performing arts community in New Hampshire must grow, and we simply exist to support your efforts to that end. Regardless of who has been driving the Awards, our Operations Committee and newly formed Board of Directors have always focused on that mission and will continue to do so.  For me, nothing could be as exciting than to return to a more active role in preparation for our upcoming awards show.

Our community is much bigger and more inclusive than when we started.  We’ve watched our friends and family make theatre careers in and outside of New Hampshire.  At the last event, I was floored by how much young talent we had onstage.  The day will come when they are standing onstage, possibly as winners of a Best Actor or Actress award, maybe as the President of the Board of Directors, or even as a Lifetime Achievement recipient. The future of the NHTA has never been brighter.

I look forward to seeing what we do next.
